TAKING IT TO THE STREETS!!! NFB takes the boycott on Goodwill Industries a step further to end subminimum wage payment!

Last week, the National Federation of the Blind circulated e-mails expressing plans for a nationwide educational demonstration at Goodwill Industries locations across the United States.  Our goal is to educate the public on the UNFAIR, DISCRIMINATORY, and IMMORAL practice o paying individuals with disabilities less than the federally mandated minimum wage.

According to section 14 c of the Fair Labor Standards act, business can acquire a special certificate that allows them to pay people with disabilities less than the federally mandated minimum wage.  There is no bottom limit and the National Federation of the Blind has found employees who are making less than $1.00 per hour.  If this is not UNFAIR, DISCRIMINATORY, and IMMORAL, I don't know what is.

The National federation of the Blind believes that any one who puts in an honest days work deserves an honest days pay.  We believe that this practice of paying individuals pennies per hour is EXPLOITATION!  This is equivalent to sweat shop labor which we constantly condemn in other countries.  Well ladies and gentleman, it is happening right here in the United States and it is time to act!!!

The National Federation of the Blind of Colorado will be meeting with both the CEO of Goodwill Industries of Denver and Colorado Springs in the days to come to express our position and determine their position on this issue before we announce details pertaining to our educational demonstrations that will take place later this month.  GET READY FOLKS!!!  TOGETHER, we can end this UNFAIR, DISCRIMINATORY, and IMMORAL PRACTICE!!!  Stay tuned to our blog, facebook, and twitter for details on the nation wide educational demonstrations!!!
