Scholarships for blind Students

If you are a blind student who needs money for school you have come to the right blog.  Each year, the National Federation of the Blind gives away scholarships to blind students in Colorado and the National Federation of the Blind gives away scholarships to blind students form across the United States.  We also have leads on several other organizations who provide scholarship opportunities to blind students.  If you find this information helpful, pass it on to other blind students!

NATIONAL FEDERATION OF THE BLIND OF COLORADO

Each year, the National Federation of the Blind of Colorado gives away over $10,000.00 in scholarships to students who are blind and are residents of the state of Colorado.  While we know the money is helpful to students, many agree that the greater prize is the free trip to our National Convention in Orlando Florida as well as to our state convention in Colorado Springs.  The deadline for application is APRIL 15 so APPLY NOW!  For more information and to fill out an application, please visit our website:

NATIONAL FEDERATION OF THE BLIND

American Council of the Blind (ACB)
The American Council of the Blind (ACB) annually awards approximately twenty scholarships ranging in amounts from $1,000 to $2,500 to vocational, entering freshmen, undergraduate and graduate college students who are legally blind, maintain a 3.3 GPA and are involved in their school/local community.

Applications can now be submitted and all materials must be received by 11:59 pm Eastern Standard Time by February 28th. Scholarship monies will be awarded for the upcoming academic year.

American Foundation for the Blind

Association of Blind Citizens (ABC)
The Association of Blind Citizens will offer five thousand dollars in college scholarships to legally blind individuals seeking a college degree.  The Reggie Johnson Memorial Scholarship will be valued at $2,000 and three $1,000 scholarships will be available.

The Chicago Lighthouse for People Who Are Blind or Visually Impaired
The Lighthouse offers The Mary Kathryn and Michael Panitch Scholarship Program. Five or more scholarships ranging from $1,000 up to $5,000 will be awarded to individuals who are blind or visually impaired. Council of Citizens with Low Vision International (CCLVI)
The Council of Citizens with Low Vision International offers two scholarship programs.
The Fred Scheigert Scholarship Program:
This competitive scholarship awards three (3) students an individual prize of $3000 annually. Applicants must be full-time college students with low vision, chosen from among those who meet the visual acuity and academic guidelines.

Guidelines, Application and Certification of Low Vision forms and the on-line application are available at http://www.cclvi.org/scholarship.htm. The application must be completed online. The required CCLVI Certification of Low Vision form may be downloaded and completed between June and February.
Completed applications and supporting documents must be received by March 1st. If you have any questions about the scholarship application guidelines, please call CCLVI at (800)733-2258.

The Carl Foley Graduate Scholarship Program:

This program is for graduate students attending one of several colleges and universities which offer a degree in the field of low vision. Applicants need not be visually impaired. Application is made through the school directly.
If your college or university has a program in the field of low vision and is not currently recognized, contact CCLVI so that a questionnaire can be sent to the school to determine if the program qualifies for the provisions of the Carl Foley Scholarship.

The Council for Exceptional Children
The Foundation for Exceptional Children offers scholarships to incoming college freshman who are disabled.
The Kayte M. Fearn Council for Exceptional Children Ethnic Diversity Scholarship is awarded annually. It is a cash scholarship to a CEC student member from an ethnic background who is currently pursuing a degree in special education. Through the Looking Glass and its National Center for Parents with Disabilities and their Families are pleased to announce new scholarships specifically for high school seniors and college students who have parents with disabilities.  A total of ten $1,000 scholarships will be given out Fall
2011.  Please note that the 2011 awards have different application procedures than previous years.  There are separate scholarship awards for high school seniors and for college students, and each has separate eligibility requirements:

1. High School Seniors.  To be eligible, a student must be a high school graduate (or graduating senior) by Summer 2011, planning to attend a two-year or four-year college in Fall 2011 in pursuit of an AA, BA or BS degree, and have at least one parent with a disability

2. College Students. To be eligible, a student must be currently enrolled in a two-year or four-year college in Fall 2011 in pursuit of an AA, BA or BS degree, be 21 years of age or younger as of March 1, 2011, and have at least one parent with a disability.

All application materials must be postmarked by March 1, 2011.  Individuals may submit only one application per award period.
